Guardian Angel
A simple safety check for your Gmail
Suspicious email? Open it in Gmail, click Guardian Angel, and get a clear danger score in plain language — made to be easy for everyone, including older adults.
What it does
Guardian Angel is a free browser extension for Google Chrome (and other Chromium browsers). When you ask it to, it reads the email you have open in Gmail and uses an AI service you choose to help spot common scam patterns.
- Works on Gmail in the browser
- Shows a danger score and simple “what to do” advice
- Uses your own free API key (Groq or Google Gemini)
- Keys and scan history stay on your computer
How it works
-
1
Open an email in Gmail
Click the message so you can read it on screen. -
2
Click the Guardian Angel icon
It sits in the top-right of Chrome (puzzle piece menu if you don’t see it). -
3
Press “Check This Email”
You’ll get a danger score, short reasons, and a clear next step.
Install
Chrome Web Store: When the public listing is live, the install button will appear here. Until then you can load the extension manually (developers / testers):
- Download the extension ZIP from the project release or your developer.
- Unzip it to a folder on your computer.
- Open
chrome://extensionsin Chrome. - Turn on Developer mode (top right).
- Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
- Open Gmail, open an email, and click the Guardian Angel icon.
You will need a free API key from Groq (many free checks per day) or Google AI Studio (Gemini — fewer free checks, often more accurate).
Free & optional support
Guardian Angel is free to use. If it helps your family and you want to support development later, a donation link may be added on this page — never required to scan email.
